Mike Nichols, responsable général de Microsoft Bing, explique que les images et les vidéos classées X seront affichées à partir du sous-domaine explicit.bing.net. «C’est invisible pour l’internaute mais permet de Filtrer ce contenu au sein d’un sous-domaine unique, ce qui Facilitera le processus de blocage pour l’utilisateur quel que soit le niveau de sécurité configuré», explique-t – il dans un billet.
Dès la sortie du moteur, plusieurs utilisateurs s’interrogeaient sur les filtrages mis en place par Bing notamment lorsque des pop-ups au contenu explicite apparaissaient à l’écran lors de la Prévisualisation d’une vidéo. Par la suite, plusieurs sociétés ont demandé des options de blocages, plus robustes. Dan Olds, analyste du cabinet Gabriel Consulting Group Inc, ajoute: «Microsoft ne censure rien du tout, ils catégorisent (ce contenu) différemment». Selon l’analyste, si ce système s’avère payant, Bing pourrait rapidement augmenter ses pièces de marché au sein des entreprises et lieux publics (bibliothèques, les cybercafés).
